Machida City Museum of Graphic Arts held an exhibition of Chimei Hamada, who reached the age of 100 in 2017.

Chimei Hamada was highly evaluated by his copperplate prints “Elegy for a New Conscript” series, which were produced from his own harsh war experience in his 20s. After that, he expresses society, human and himself through keen and humorous viewpoint. In 1979, Albertina National Museum of Art, Vienna, Austria organized Chimei Hamada Exhibition. This exhibition also shown at the Graz State Museum of Modern Art, Graz, Austria. In 1993, one-man exhibition was held at the Japan Gallery of The British Museum, London. In 2007, Uffizi Museum held a first one-man exhibition as a Japanese artist. His artworks are highly valued not only in Japan but also all over the world.

This exhibition introduced about 90 pieces of his copperplate prints and 4 sculptures from his entire career. And the copperplate prints by the other leading artists in that period were also exhibited, including Tetsuro Komai, Eikyu, Yozo Hamaguchi, Masuo Ikeda and so on.

戦争体験を糧に哀しみとユーモアを描く。100歳を迎えた版画家・浜田知明の展覧会を開催 - 美術手帖

町田市立国際版画美術館にて「浜田知明　100年のまなざし」が開催されました。

２０１７年に１００歳を迎えた浜田知明は、２０代の過酷な戦争経験から制作した銅版画「初年兵哀歌」シリーズで非常に高い評価を受けました。その後も社会や人間そして自分自身をも鋭くユーモラスに表現し続け、１９７９年にはアルベルティーナ国立素描版画美術館（オーストリア・ウィーン）とグラーツ州立近代美術館（オーストリア・グラーツ）にて、１９９３年には大英博物館（英・ロンドン）にて個展が開催され、２００７年にはウフィツィ美術館（伊・フィレンツェ）にて日本人として初の個展が開催されるなど、作品は国内のみならず世界的に高く評価されています。

本展覧会では初期から近年までの銅版画約90点と彫刻作品4点、また同時代に銅版画の新たな表現を開拓した駒井哲郎、瑛九、浜口陽三、池田満寿夫らの作品も併せて展示されました。沢山の方にご高覧いただき、誠にありがとうございました。
